Information about car K-1 Attack

The first introduction of the car called K-1 Attack kit car was in 2000. Since then, it has been possible to find a lot of information online. It should be noted, that mainly due to poor awareness of past dealers, some inaccurate information was written, especially in the technical level.

K-1 Attack kit car is a project of a Slovak firm called K-1 Styling & Tuning, headed by Dick Květňanský and a designer Juraj Mitro. It is a lightweight two-seat roadster which is supplied as a kit. It is possible to assemble a full sports car from power units of a purchased donor car. K-1 Attack kit car is the forerunner of the model K-1 Attack Roadster 3.0 V6 which was produced by company K-1 Engineering as a complete sports car in a limited edition of 35 pieces.

The advantage of kit cars is low cost and above all design originality. The price of the donor vehicle is advantageous, especially for crashed cars where there was no impairment of the required factory parts used in the kit.

Front clip

One-piece made "Front Clip" is integrating: front bumper, front spoiler, front hood and both front fenders. The rear & front clip together virtually build the whole car body! Both clips are equipped by inner flange around the edge of all four wheel wells, same as any serial production automobile
In combination with front "LIP", the bottom front nose is specially designed to induce underpressure under the whole vehicle during high speeds.

Front lip

Front "LIP" installs directly into the front clip. Its slightly raised edge (X) over the engaged part ensure precise rift when seated. According to the fact Attack is a low riding vehicle, this part was created and manufactured separately, due to its possible damages.

Rear clip

Similar as "Front Clip", the "Rear Clip" integrates majority of main body panels: rear bumper, rear lights sheet, both rear fenders, both roll-bar covers, rear quarter hood with rain-rail flange around the main hood opening, both rocker panels & side skirts, behind the seat luggage compartment and interior and dash walls. No panels alignment troubles, no time consuming rifts adjusting anymore! Easy & fast installation!

Rear muffler sheet is shaped to match the curves of rear bumper and will cover your silencer and other parts from underneath the engine compartment. For driving the streamlines to cool down the exhaust tubes and the engine block, we recommend to drill a few holes here. For best results, the bottom line holes are those most important. (see the silver painted one)

Rear spoiler

Rear spoiler is made from two parts "in-mold" bonded together when drying. This technology insure best jointing and prevent from later paint cracking or other damages. The design of this particular part is not just designer job, but was created with help of computer analyze, to seriously force down the vehicle in high speeds!

Rear hood

Rear hood consist from two panels bonded together. Exterior part and inner liner. This technology ensure the best structural rigidity as well as provide a professional look even from under the hood view.
The inner liner perform here also water draining task. When the rain drops get in through the motor air breathers, water rails hidden inside of the hood will lead the water to the drain exit.

Doors

The main door panel is made up of several connected parts. The result is high durability and professional appearance from all sides.

Rollbars

Both head protective rollbars are all over covered by stylish "intake type" skirts. Upper part belongs to the rear clip while parts (A) & (B) are installed separately. See detail how the whole gatefold goes together on the body..

Sheet of glass

Windshield is installed between these two brackets. The front windshield frame cover and the bottom glass & steel frame cover.

Interior

Door trim

On the inside of the door there is a handle for door closing, handle to control the lock and an arm rest. These all come also in carbon trim.

Passenger compartments (1)

The right part of dash board is occupied by glove box. There is a solid space for gloves, sun glasses, personal licenses and for non-folded letter documents! The split lid is made from thick material and whole space is clamping for better security.

Additional gauges (2)

The middle part of the dash board is wrapped by the additional gauges panel. This panel comes with blended openings, so you can decide what to install in. If your Attack is not using high output engine and no special gauges are needed, this area can be use for clock, voltmeter, drive economy gauge, or inside/outside temperature meter. Panel is attached by four embedded hex screws.
Any rounded gauge with diameter 21/16 inch will fit perfectly in each boot. (21/16" is a standardized size)

Instrument panel (3)

Instrument panel shield forms one piece with left part of the dash. It is attached to the under dash panel, which takes the whole space under the dash. Both are reinforced with main frame steel bar running transversally across the whole dash for maximum structural rigidity and driver & passenger safety.
This shield is designed to accept the Honda Accord (USA 1990-93, EU 1989-93) instrument panel with perfect visibility of all original check lights and gauges. (instrument panel is part of your donor car, not included in kit).
The final effect is adding that needed sporty character to the original family car gauge cluster. New shield is covering the instrument panel along all rounded gauges and its upper nib shades the gauges against direct sun.

Center console (4)

Center console panel is covering the interior middle tunnel area. It is attached to the steel frame tubes by 6 embedded hex screws. Marked area is to be cut for stick shift or automatic transmission controller. Longitudinal hollow in the middle is seating for parking brake lever.

Seats

K-1 seats were extra patented due to their extraordinary design.
These seats were created especially for ATTACK use, so they fit perfectly into the interior shell. Each seat consist from profile reinforced rear tray and ergonomically designed backrest. Both seats are reclining as one unit to reach the luggage compartment behind the seats.
The actual backrest shell exactly fasten your body in strong curves as well as firmly protect your neck and head against rear impact.
The back reinforced tray could be also ordered in several colors. Even Carbon Fiber combination is available on whole seat, or just on one part of it.
The multi point seatbelts are attached to steel frame right behind the seats and lead through the holes in each seat.
To create a strong and rigid seat a several tests were perform to the control series of first seats. Holes were cut to the critical points and the seat was stress lot more than in the car.
After this the holes were check for cracks or any other defects.
These results show us the ideal amount of bondo applied between the backrest and the tray, as well as thickness of material used for manufacturing the seat.

Internal sheet of glass

The bottom liner upholster the glass supports as well as the upper steel frame and create a protective seating for the actual glass. The front cover sits on the glass and mask the edges. This flexible housing is vibration free and provides more safety for driver and passenger.

Passenger area

Driver's footrest

Even the sitting position in the Attack interior is very comfortable and still racy, driver legroom is not as spacy as in regular vehicle. This is caused by extremely low sitting position and legroom slightly moved to the center line. A part of space normally used as legroom is shared here with a front wheel.
For this reason, driver legroom wall is equipped with special rest sector for left leg, ideal for high way cruising when not using clutch/brake pedals very often.

The panel which is the right part of the driver’s footwell.

Front panel - driver

Through this panel the pedals are mounted to the main frame. The points for drilling are marked on this part (pedals assembly, the steering goes through this part as well).

Through this panel the cooling system is lead, the front part is specially shaped so that it creates space for changing gears. The points for drilling are marked (penetration of the cooling system).

The panel which forms the left, rear and also upper part of the footwell at the passenger’s feet.

Floor

Front fenders

These left & right inner front fenders are installed directly on main frame just behind the front wheels. They are isolating interior from water, dirt, dust and noise as well as protecting the door hinges. These panels are made from one piece fiber for maximum rigidity to even better reinforce the steel frame.

Rear fenders sit tightly on the main body. The sports shock absorbers run through the moulding on the sides of the car.

Headlights covers

These covers which separate the wiring from the headlights have an aesthetical function but also create the front part of the fenders and thus isolate the headlights from getting dirty.

Small parts

Mirrors

Rearview mirrors are made from two pieces and filled with polyurethane foam to prevent temperature dilatation and cracking. Mirror glass is adjustable manually, however Attack is a light weight sport roadster and due to its thin aluminum stands, there is no space for wires anyway. Inside of each shell is flush-mounted thread for joint installation. (J) Aluminum stands are inserted and bonded inside of rails in the outer mirror skin.

Rear light sockets

Rear lights tubes are delivered in hi quality black gel-coat finish, which is ready to be paint without any other developing. Tubes are designed to direct acceptation of original Lamborghini Diablo tail lights.
You can do your own decision regarding the type of tail light ordering. Several types are available: brake/tail/blinker, brake/tail/reflex, tail/brake/fog, brake/fog, brake/tail, tail/blinker, tail/reverse/brake, reverse/blinker and much more!
Optional are white or transparent lights. All lamps are 100% street legal and are or U.S. DOT-3 or EU certified!

Tubular frame K-1 Attack

The basis of the modular vehicle K-1 Attack is a tubular frame in komaxit treatment. Attack's tubular chassis was built with extra attention to torsional rigidity and safety by experts with 30 years of experiences building race cars. It was born from international co-operation of Slovak, Czech, Hungarian brand name engineers and supported by German competition teams and formula racers.

The frame was finally tested by known american computer analyses specialist, and the results surpass even NASCAR regulations!. The results of the study from the testing are for inspection at the company B-racing.

The original project is designed for donor Honda Accord 2.0 and 2.2l , see the photo of the frame. It has been possible to see the frame on our address in Rakovník.

Company B-racing enables individual adjustment of the frame to accept a different engine which customer provides. With regard to the design options, it is possible to use almost any engine including an axle from the donor car. In general, the original version is the cheapest at the cost of the possible repair of some parts owing to the older vintage of the donor car.

FAQ

General

  1. Why do you offer the basic kit and the complementary set separately?

    The Attack is a concept and each customer has a different idea about the end result. We are trying to save the money and time of demanding customers by preventing them from paying for certain components twice (e.g. high standard breaking system, using different powertrain, etc.).
    Save costs for purchase parts from retail is also a certain advantage.

  2. Is the kit you offer complete?

    Yes, basic set and complementary set make a complete kit. For the final assembly you only need to buy a donor car, sports steering wheel and good looking wheels.

  3. If I buy the basic kit from you, what will the car look like after assembly?

    Is it an open roadster, which you can also see in the photo gallery. Only the burgundy Attack is an exception – its fabric roof is not a part of the kit.

  4. What is the kit delivery time?

    We try to keep kits available on stock. Otherwise it is 4 – 6 weeks.

  5. Is it possible to buy additional accessories to complement the kit?

    Yes, in the section Offer the components are divided into subsections Roof kit, Design, Performance.

  6. What makes the K-1 Attack kit exceptional?

    Mostly the original design and driving characteristics which resemble a go-cart. Also the quality in which the frame and the fiber glass parts come is exceptional and doesn’t find a match in the Czech republic. The Attack has its own tube frame, Czechoslovak history and a full service base in the CR.

  7. Is the kit you offer original?

    Yes, we sell only original kits developed by the K-1 Styling and Tunning company.

  8. How does K1 Renovatio (Tushek Renovatio) relate to you?

    It doesn’t. Renovatio isn’t the K-1 Attack. It is a private Slovenian project, which has re-modelled the shape of the Attack and added the engine 4.2 litre from Audi. Their activities are not connected to us in any way.

  9. What is your connection with former Czech dealer JK design?

    None. Our company specializes in the so called Low-cost racing, our plans with the Attack are described in the answer to the following question.

  10. What are you plans with Attack?

    We have tried to add to the original project based on a donor car Honda Accord a possibility of bigger and more modern engines, more accessories, etc.

  11. What is your opinion of buying older already assembled Attack? Which price is adequate?

    An important factor is the human factor – it depends on who assembled the car. We have seen a car running on the F22 (150 bhp) engine which had top equipment and was assembled with precision. The buyer had paid over 40.000 EUR. On the other hand we have serviced a car which had been poorly assembled, in some parts even dangerously. In our oppinion the purchase price of 24.000 EUR was too high considering the poor quality. It is therefore necessary to assess each car individually, esp. with regards to how it has been assembled and what components have been used.

Engines

  1. Why was Honda Accord used as the donor car?

    There are several reasons for this. The availability of Honda Accord worldwide, favourable price, quality Japanese engine, front type double wishbone axle, which can be found in most super sport cars (it is used in the rear in the Attack).

  2. If I chose a frame modification made for a different powertrain (e.g. K20A2) do I still need the rest of the parts from Accord?

    Yes, even in this case the parts used from Honda Accord are e.g. steering, pedals, gear shift, front axel. From Honda Civic Type-R it is possible to use in addition to the engine and transmition most of the components, such as the Clutch cylinder with vessel, Brake cylinder with power booster and vessel, gauges, blinker/wiper levers, wiring, fuel pump, etc. It is possible to limit the parts used form Honda Civic to only engine and transmision and take the rest of the components from Honda Accord.
    The situation is similar in the case of the H22 powertrain.

  3. Why did you chose the Japanese version of Toyota MR2 as another alternative to the donor car?

    At present we are finishing a prototype for which a brand new frame has been developed. The necessity of using Honda Accord parts is removed. It is even not needed to add VW components to the front axel. The entire car is built on the MR2 platform. The Japanese version (rev. 3) has been purposely chosen for its favourable price, engine supercharged by a turbocharger in the series with 245 bhp and its excellent potential for additional modifications.

  4. Does the donor car in the case of MR2 have the right hand drive?

    Yes, but in the Attack the steering is of course modified to left hand drive.

  5. Can such car be really found in the CR?

    We cooperate with car suppliers from England where the MR2 model is very popular. In case of interest we can assist you with importing this car. The price is usually in the region of 2.000 EUR depending on the condition of the car.

  6. If I buy the basic kit can I use a different (my own) engine?

    We have customers who buy basic kit for Honda Accord and then modify it for another powertrain unit. It should be noted however that in this case it is more difficult to register such car for to use on roads.

  7. Is there enough room in the frame for fitting a V8 engine?

    Yes, the parameters of the engine room are listed in section Technical parameters.

Kit

  1. Is the Attack suitable for high speed driving?

    The Attack is specifically intended for high speed driving.

  2. Does the car have space for storing luggage?

    There is room behind both seats, under the front bonnet, on the side panels behind the doors and behind the engine.

  3. What about the wheels, how are they attached?

    The front axel of the car is partly equipped with the Audi TT Coupe components (spacing of the screws and middle holes). It is the same as any Volkswagen middle class car which is 5 – 100. Rear axel comes from Honda Accord (originally middle axel), i.e. 4 – 114,3. The offset (we call it ET, which is the distance from the wheel’s horizontal axel to the assembly mat) on the front axel is ET-35mm on a 8Jx18” disc. On the rear axel the discs including the offset are identical as on the front axel, but a metal adapter from 4-114,3 to 5-100 is used. This allows for the use of a set of 4 wheels from Audi or VW. This adapter is 50mm wide which means that when the wheels are used without the adapter it will be ET-35mm + 50mm.

  4. Which parts exactly are needed from the donor Honda Accord?

  5. Is it possible to fit the car with the HID (xenon) headlights?

    Yes, it is possible to have the headlights in the HID-xenon version.

  6. Are the headlights authorised? Are they legal to use in the USA?

    The headlights are available in two versions. European SAE certified and the USA DOT certified. Both versions of the headlight combinations conform to the US or European standards.

  7. Will the RHD set be available (right hand drive)?

    Yes, we are working on this.

  8. I have heard that the donor can also be Honda Accord 90-96? Can it be any model or only certain models?

    It is possible to use older or younger donor cars, but the car has been tailored to the models made between 1990 and 1996. You may have to buy several parts separately. The best is to base this on the 1990 to 1993 Honda Accord.

  9. You state that for the assembly the 1990-1993 model is recommended . Which parts are different from the 1994-1997 version?

    According to the official statement by Honda it is only a factory facelift. The concept of the car has been created on the model year 1991 (4 doors) and that is how we know that 1990-93 fits 100%.

  10. Installation is supposed to be simple without welding and cutting. How long does the assembly take?

    The assembly takes approximately 3 months. It is possible to complete it as quickly as in 3 weeks, but in some cases it can take up to a year.

  11. How is the transmission done?

    The original mechanism has been extended by linkage, extention to a new position and also a possibility to freely short shift for sports use.

  12. How is the wiring carried out?

    The original wiring from the donor car is used. For the use in Attack it needs to be adjusted (some cables needs extending).

  13. Are the seats adjustable?

    Yes, it is possible to use rails under the seats.

  14. I assume that the side windows do not roll down into the doors as conventional windows do?

    The side windows are parts of the hardtop, they can be removed in several seconds but they are fixed (they can not be rolled down).

  15. How fast and how easily can the hardtop be put up or taken down?

    In 1 minute. It is attached with the use of a Click-on system. One push will release, another push will lock in place. The side panels are guided in place with the help of lock and then secured.

  16. How detailed is the description of the car assembly and how is it demonstrated? Do the instructions include also dismantling of the donor car?

    There is a step-by-step video manual which is available on DVD which also includes the steps to dismantle the donor car.

  17. Why is a special chassis used and the original shock absorbers from Accord are not used?

    The reason is the sports set up of the shock absorbers and especially the different weight of the car.

  18. How is the audio set carried out?

    Same as in the donor car. The room for fitting speakers is e.g. on the dashboard, the side skirts, or on the interior side of the doors.

  19. What are the widest wheels that can be used?

    There is no limit for the rear wheels and 255-19” for the front wheels.

  20. Approximately for which break horse power (BHP) is the chassis dimensioned?

    The recommendation for the use of the original frame is up to 400 BHP.

  21. Are the front headlights adjustable?

    Definitely. They are 100% adjustable in all directions.

  22. Where is the radiator fitted?

    Immediately behind the front edge.

  23. How much leg room is there in the Attack?

    A person between 165cm and 196cm will be comfortably seated with enough leg room. The pedals can be adjusted, same as the driver’s seat so the car should really be comfortable for anyone. In the Accessories section we offer seats in XL which are wider in the pelvis area.

  24. Are you able to supply all panels of the body?

    Yes.

  25. What about the exhaust system?

    We use original Intake and Exhaust manifolds for the base cars. The original tube fits under the engine, just got to be shorten a bit. Exhaust silencer is part of the kit.

  26. Approximately how much will a full turn-key assembly of the car cost?

    Depending on the customer requirements the price ranges from 30 000 EUR to 120 000 EUR.

  27. How long will it take for you to assemble the car?

    1 – 2 months for the typical kit, however this time can double or even triple for individual assembly.

Adjustment for your vehicle

Due to the financial difficulty of the service process is used mainly for racing cars or private projects. According to the specific assignment we are able to individually modify the frame, as well as 4-wheel drive. We use digital scan of the original donor car's suspension and design a new frame. We work with leading companies in the field, including a university representation.
